{"id":1415,"date":"2026-02-02T16:16:03","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T23:16:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/richardson-lab.nau.edu\/?p=1415"},"modified":"2026-02-02T16:16:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T23:16:17","slug":"tansley-review-out-in-new-phytologist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/richardson-lab.nau.edu\/?p=1415","title":{"rendered":"Tansley Review out in New Phytologist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andrew is coauthor on a Tansley Review just published in <em>New Phytologist<\/em>, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1111\/nph.70868\">Carbon uptake, storage, and allocation patterns contribute to blurring of annual\u00a014C signals in tree rings<\/a>.&#8221; Led by Amy Hessl, a paleoclimatologist at West Virginia University, the paper reviews how trees take up, store and use carbon and how these processes can affect the timing and strength of the radiocarbon \u201cspikes\u201d left behind in the atmosphere by past solar storms, known as Miyake events.\u00a0\u00a0The paper emerged from a new NSF-funded collaboration between Hessl and Prof. Mariah Carbone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modeling led by Andrew and Mariah shows how tree biology has a fundamental impact on how faithfully the atmospheric signal is preserved.
