Of the six second-growth <em>Sequoia sempervirens<\/em> trees they have instrumented over three trips this summer, all trees are instrumented with five <a href=\"https:\/\/tomst.com\/web\/en\/systems\/tms\/point-dendrometer\/\">Tomst dendrometers<\/a>, three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campbellsci.com\/lws\">Meter leaf wetness sensors<\/a>, and one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.florapulse.com\/why-scientists\">Florapulse microtensiometer<\/a> for continuous measurements of stem water potential.  Half the trees are equipped with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.campbellsci.com\/ee181-l\">Campbell temp\/RH probes<\/a> and half the trees with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irsystem.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/MiniBSV10K_ManualEnglishver1.0_01.pdf\">IRSystem MiniBSV 10k Visibility Sensor<\/a> for fog detection. All sensors are connected to a Campbell CR310 datalogger in each tree. Because logger channels were in short supply, the MiniBSV sensors communicate using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tekbox.com\/product\/tbs06-ts-sdi-12-to-rs232-converter-and-bus-sniffer\/\">Tekbox TBS06-TS<\/a> SDI-RS232 converter, connected to the logger&#8217;s DB9 serial port. Each tree&#8217;s measurement and logging system is solar powered, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mouser.com\/ProductDetail\/Crydom\/D1D12?qs=KoN42VEC626efqu3OijruA%3D%3D\">Crydom D1D12 solid state relay<\/a>s being used to moderate power consumption. The logger in each tree communicates with the &#8220;Brain Box&#8221; in Tree 1 via <a href=\"https:\/\/store.ui.com\/us\/en\/pro\/category\/wireless-airmax-2-4ghz\/products\/nsm2\">Ubiquiti NanoStation<\/a> P2P radios; the Brain Box is also equipped with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stardot.com\">StarDot<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/phenocam.nau.edu\/webcam\/sites\/santaluciapreserve2\/\">PhenoCam<\/a>, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sierrawireless.com\/router-solutions\/rv50\/\">SierraWireless RV50x<\/a> cell modem\/router for two-way communications between all trees and the outside world.  What a cool project to be doing more than 60 m above the ground! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The photo shows Andrew in the top of Tree 6.
